As leaders, we talk about return on investment all the time. It's a key KPI and metric, except we don't think of it always in the right way. We think about it as return on investment money, not return on investment time. And time is our most precious asset. So now just reshift your definition of return on investment for a second and think about how you're investing your time. A lot of leaders are spending way too much time in the day-to-day and they're spending time checking off those to-do lists on tasks that take their time and in the moment feel really good to get those things done. But that time you get very little return on. When you spend time developing a key team member, coaching them up, empowering them, teaching them to do something that they can do instead of you in the future so that you can scale and grow bigger. That's a huge return on your time. So today, as you go through the day, ask yourself, does this task create a return on my time? Is there a real return on my investment here? Or am I just getting stuff done for the sake of getting stuff done?
