[Music] thank you take what you like and leave the rest it's one of my favorite philosophies sayings whatever you want to call it and let me explain what I mean by it so I am a big believer in learning from others not Reinventing the wheel it's very easy to say I'm independent I'm going to do this myself and I'm going to figure it all out from scratch every single time that is not a good use of anybody's time it's not efficient and honestly it doesn't come up with the best ideas because we're all capped by our own experiences my knowledge is capped by all the experiences I've had in my life and no others um and same with yours so even if somebody is 100 years old and has had an incredible amount of experience in their life they're still capped by the set of their experiences so it's way better when you're trying to come up with a really great idea a solution um you know a new product new innovation to have multiple people's ideas sharing than to have just one set of experiences coming up with it so going back to not Reinventing the wheel um before I was a Vista chair I was a vistage member and one of my favorite things where I picked up the phrase was to go to meetings and listen to others and the way they handled a problem a solution an idea um tackle something something a speaker said that sparked an interest and you know oh I really like that idea and so I would go to a meeting and I would take what I like meaning the ideas I liked and I'd leave the rest not everything was for me not everything I heard from a really top-notch speaker was to be integrated into my business or into my own philosophies but I took the nuggets a nugget here from a peer of mine a nugget here from a speaker and I still do this today as a chair every meeting I go to I take a nugget from a member a nugget from a speaker and I take these ideas and I leave the rest and the idea is that I take those nuggets I integrate them into my philosophy my strategy my business plan um who I am whatever that may be and use those to build new ideas for where I'm going so take what you like and leave the rest get nuggets from different places in your life um be it friends family co-workers others don't reinvent the wheel and take it to build something new and different using lots of people's experiences not just your own [Music] thank you
