foreign [Music] do you surround yourself with the right people leaders commonly surround themselves with people who are smarter than themselves right that's an old adage it's important and it's a very true and important thing to do my question for you isn't about finding people smarter than you it's about finding people different than you um there is a huge advantage in business and in life with surrounding yourself the people who are very different than you are and that may be difference in experiences Industries backgrounds when it comes to the business World um role types it could be age race gender ethnicity you name it but some characteristics that make them different from you and their set of experience in life different than your set of experiences in life if you are with the people who have similar backgrounds and experiences you're a leader who is a Harvard grad and you hire all Harvard grads you are going to be with people who think like you and ask the same questions as you the ideas you're going to come up with are going to be similar to the ideas you're going to come they're going to come up with and vice versa and the questions they're going to ask you to challenge you will be the same types of questions you would ask if you find people who are different who come from unique and different backgrounds from yourself then they're going to ask different questions and they're going to have different ideas and the True Value isn't in their idea or your idea but in the conversation where you bounce one idea and then they have another and then there's another and another and there's conversation that takes place amongst all of the different ideas that's where the best ideas come from the best leaders come from being challenged by others who ask questions that the leader wouldn't ask themselves if someone thinks like you they'll ask the same questions of you so it's really important to surround yourself with people who are uniquely different than you who bring different skills different backgrounds and different experiences to the table and the more you do that the stronger and better leader you will be you will grow from that just from those interactions and you will provide better ideas you for your company for your products for your customers and overall just be a better leader and a better person so do you surround yourself with the right people foreign [Music]
