As Leaders even when we're doing a really good job of staying strategic we still get stuck in kind of like here and now what are the big things we're working on today and the next six months in the next year that fit into our plans one thing that leaders don't often do really well is scenario plan now there's an unlimited number of scenarios for any given thing so you can't plan for them all right but as Leaders we can do a good job of asking ourselves big strategic questions just so we thought through them a little bit so if they happen we're ready for them for example what happens if you get news that you lost your biggest customer tomorrow um or your most profitable customer tomorrow or what if your most important or key employee quits tomorrow how are you going to Pivot what does it look like how does your business have to change to cope in that scenario what opportunities come if that were to happen that you could never imagine or think of what gifts come in that situation so think of these big disruptive events that are unlikely to occur um every once in a while stop and pause and say what if what if there was a major disruptor in our industry what if AI took over in a way that I'm not imagining ask yourself these big strategic questions because it gets you outside your comfort zone it gets you thinking about things and the reality is if it never happens you've already thought about opportunities and possibilities for your business based on constraints that are positive ones right you don't want to lose those things but it gets you outside your box and you may have a great idea that comes from it even if that thing never comes to be so a great way to be strategic is to stop and pause and ask big questions um and scenario plan for different things that may never come get past those constraints outside your comfort zone and let the new ideas flow plus if one of them ever does occur you'll already be halfway there
