Let the Silence do the Talking

[Music] not long ago i had laryngitis first of all i'm grateful for my voice and that i have it back but it also taught me another interesting lesson well i couldn't talk i had to figure out how to communicate without really using words for a couple of days and with many people i could sit here and type a message out and then show them my phone and i did that in a store too which people look at me like i was crazy but it worked um but there was one person i couldn't do that with i have a four-year-old son and he doesn't read yet so i had to figure out how to communicate to him without really using words and to get what i needed across and i shared this because it was a really interesting experience because as a parent we commonly are like do this do that you know we're very instructive all the time um in the way we work with our kids and not having a voice i needed to get him to do things in other ways and i needed to give him time and space to see did he did he understand what i was trying to ask him to do or not and giving him that space he did better than when i do this um and it taught me a really interesting lesson or thought process of communication which is sometimes you need to slow down and let the silence talk tap them on the shoulder just gently remind them that something's going on bigger point to it and then let them figure it out for themselves by telling them that's gonna happen you need to go fix that do that this is not right like they shut down anyway and they're not hearing you and this goes with adults too this is not just to talk about parenting um but by pointing to that hey i think there's a problem and then not saying anything because i can't and letting him figure it out or was much more successful and so i actually started trying that more with adults too rather than typing i would give it the silence let the silence do the talking um and that it was just an interesting experience so i encourage you to sometimes let the silence do the talking try motioning and then giving someone else the space to solve the problem instead of telling them how to do it that is my lesson from laryngitis from recent times so let the silence do the talking hope everybody has a great day you
