Here is my story, #breakthestigma

[Music] i am bipolar um back when i was 19 years old i was diagnosed after dropping out of college for the first time only nine weeks in i share this because i don't typically get very personal in my videos because i think it's really important for us to break the stigma around mental health unlike cancer or other diseases that are commonly talked about in society people don't talk about mental health issues and it's a very lonely disease and it only makes it worse people believe that if they have mental health issues that they aren't going to be able to get certain jobs or advance in their careers there's a huge stigma around it and i want to share where i'm at in my journey because i think that it can be helpful to others in their journeys so this video is a little different today but i am bipolar and when i was 19 years old i was diagnosed i was also told after trying many different medicines and dropping out of school a couple of times by a psychiatrist that i never graduate college and basically never amount to anything in my life luckily i have parents who believe in me more than a psychiatrist did and they didn't give up and they met with other psychiatrists and found me somebody who did believe that i could get better and after trying lots of medicines in and out of hospitals many times multiple attempts at suicide and shock therapy treatments i will tell you not only did i graduate college i graduated law school with honors i have successfully run a company and i now coach and work with ceos business leaders and other key executives i did amount to something and that's because people believed in me when i couldn't believe it myself and it's because i now believe in myself and i believe in others when they can't believe in themselves mental health is everywhere around us there's so many people who have mental health issues it's in the workplaces it's in our families and if we pretend to ignore it it doesn't go away it doesn't get better what helps it get better is talking about it making people aware of it and supporting people who are struggling i am very lucky to have had so much support it's why i'm here today and i'm in a success story i'm able to show you that you can amount to something you can do great things with your life you can become very stable even with mental illness but it's really important that we start talking and start supporting and we break the stigma so this message like i said a little different today and a little more personal than most people realize but i'm here to say let's break the stigma let's help each other out [Music]
