Before You Decide, Do This One Thing

So Renee, today when we were processing one of our members issues, uh, challenges that they're facing, you asked a really great question that I think we should all ask ourselves as we're dealing with challenges in our lives. >> Well, it just occurred to me that there were a lot of assumptions made. So I just asked, "What assumptions are you making around this decision?" >> And it got the person thinking and they started listing off, well, I'm assuming this and I'm assuming that. And you know, it strikes me we often do that. And then what happens is we make decisions off of our gut or bias, right? But because we have assumptions built in before we let our gut decide, um there's biases or blind spots built into that gut decision of ours or even an informed one. So I think it's a great thing for you to do just that. >> Agreed. So we believe you have it oftenimes inside of you. A great habit to get into is just get out a piece of paper, write down all the assumptions you're making and what are the facts. And then if you are making assumptions, you can go back and challenge some of those assumptions. Um, find out some of the facts before you make your decision or at least know that you're making the decision with certain assumptions so that when your decision goes as planned or maybe doesn't, you have an understanding of where to pivot or what's going on because you made some assumptions and you were aware of it going in. So try this out the next time something comes up. We'd love to know how it works for you. And we really think this could make decisions and opportunities much easier. [Music]
