[Music] today we're going to talk about an attitude of gratitude which i absolutely love because i'm a very positive person and i love the phrase itself so what is an attitude of gratitude and how do you create one for yourself how do you live with an attitude of gratitude so first an attitude of of what it sounds like but it's living we all have challenges in life um we all have major obstacles in front of us they're different based upon our backgrounds or experiences but there's not a soul that doesn't have challenges surrounding them and just human nature to look at those challenges through a negative lens sit here and see big obstacles and how hard it's going to be to overcome and to need to look at it from that angle what an attitude of gratitude though is is looking at it from the positive what are the things we have what are the tools in our kits to solve these problems what does the problems mean for us in life the opportunities that they actually are instead of problems so my group we actually you know talk about issues but we a lot of times call them opportunities because every time there's an issue there's an opportunity to do something bigger or greater so how do you live life in the positive looking for the opportunities instead of worrying about the problems that's an attitude of gratitude and it radiates from people sometimes being able to see things through that more positive lens uh so how do you create this for yourself and start living with an attitude of gratitude that's a little bit more challenging but i can give you a simple tool that i once learned and really made a difference for me and that's the gratitude journal so what you do is every morning when you wake up first thing little notepad by your bed or in your phone whatever works for you three things you are grateful for and these need to be more specific things you don't want to repeat the same things every day so rather than i am grateful for family i'm grateful for that so and so in my family did x today um so that you can get more specific and really look for the individual positive tasks and events in your life um but three things a day and i'm gonna challenge each of you to do this for at least three weeks it takes 21 days to build a habit it's a great thing to do for a lot longer than that or to make it just a daily practice but if you start when you start to journal like this what you'll notice is it trains your brain so initially your brain automatically thinks to the negative you see a challenge it's hard how am i gonna overcome it um but after you start doing this for a while your brain will actually start thinking of things in a positive way it'll see that obstacle as an opportunity and start shifting the way you view things um because you're training your brain to look at the world through a different set of lenses really um by gratitude journaling so that's my challenge to everybody here is three things a day um best done in the morning but if the morning's a challenge for you do it in the evening better done every day than not done at all and uh try doing that for at least a couple weeks and retraining your brain to look through an attitude of gratitude and i keep saying it because it's fun to say it's fun to say um and it's even better to feel it and to live it so thanks so much [Music] you
