Are You the Leadership Bottleneck?

Are you the bottleneck that you don't see? Often many leaders hold on to lots of things in their area. Whether you're the CEO or you lead a team, you hold on to needing to approve things, make sure your hands on it, make sure it's right before it goes out to a customer or a supplier or to the team. And often that's out of fear. Fear that it won't be perfect. Fear that someone will miss something. Fear that it's not going to be the way you wanted it to be. Um, but when you do that, you hold the company back from growth. You hold your division back from growth. You're the bottleneck. Um, you become a bottleneck for a couple of reasons. One, you have limited time. You can only get so much done. So therefore, you're keeping things from happening and getting executed. Two, you only have so much emotional bandwidth. Even when we have physical time, we don't always have the brain bandwidth to be our full best selves. So even when you are reviewing something, if you're exhausted and tired or burnt out, you're not giving it the full extent. Lastly, you're capping your team members growth. They know you're going to review it, so they're going to allow for mistakes. They're not going to double check their work. They're not going to be the best version of themselves because they know someone else has got their back. So you're enabling them to do um less quality work by empowering them to be the best versions of themselves by harnessing their experience. the experiences and knowledge you don't necessarily have because you're capped by your own knowledge and experiences, you actually allow your company to grow and scale and do way better things than just the knowledge and brain power and time bandwidth you have. So, are you bottlenecking your division or your company? If so, what can you take off your plate today? What can you allow someone else to do that's going to allow you to grow and expand and scale and do better and more impactful things? [Music]
